The infant river Darent flows besides houses through the village of Brasted. Like other villages on the River Darent, Brasted had a watermill.

The village was dependant on the river until recent times. You can see the narrow passageways between some of the cottages that gave access from the road to the Darent to water livestock and draw water for the houses.

Sediment
As long as a river is flowing quickly, sediment is carried along in the water. Where water starts to flow more slowly the sediment may fall to the bottom of the river's bed. This clogs up the river.

Some sediment is carried all the way to the river's mouth and into the sea.
